Larry O'Brien Skydiving Stunt

Stunt
Production

In this first-of-its-kind stunt, we parachuted the Larry O’Brien Trophy into Ball Arena for Game 1 of the Denver Nuggets Playoffs. This high-flying promotional piece captivated audiences nationwide and honestly, may have led to the Nuggets winning the Championship that year.

A skydiver jumps out of a plane mid-air and securely holding the Larry O'Brien Trophy against his chest. The trophy wears goggles and gleams against the backdrop of a bright blue sky.

Results

The campaign culminated with same-day edits aired on Sportscenter, TNT, Good Morning America, and more, generating massive viewership and excitement. The daring skydiving stunt captured the attention of fans, players, and media outlets alike, cementing the moment as a standout in NBA playoff history and was the cherry on top of Larry O'Brien's 2023 Bucket List Journey which was awarded the Hashtag Sports Award for Best Social Media Campaign.

Strategy

To celebrate the trophy's first arrival in Denver, we wanted to create an unforgettable, high-stakes moment that would generate buzz. The idea of skydiving the trophy into the arena added an element of daring and spectacle, perfectly aligning with the intensity of the playoffs. By positioning the content to air on major platforms like Sportscenter and TNT, we ensured maximum visibility and engagement with both local and national audiences.

Process

The execution required meticulous planning and precision. We custom-built a harness for the trophy and conducted multiple test jumps to ensure its safety and the jumper's safety. Over three days, we set up a video village in the front of a plane, equipped skydivers with cinema-grade and action cameras, and coordinated telephoto shots from the ground. Every angle of the jump was covered, allowing us to capture the full scope of the spectacle.
